Hello Nancy, my grandmother went under the name Nicolina Moniz Couto, born 1891 in Nordestinho. She came to New Bedford about 1907. Her birth record shows her father as Francisco Moniz Furtado Jr. (not Couto) from Nordestinho, for her mother it shows Maria da Luz (Franco) from Mosteiros, Sao Miguel. Further back, Francisco Moniz Furtado (Sr) and Anna Jacinta Pimentel, also Joao Luz Franco de Medeiros and Rosa Pacheco. Going back to her parents marriage records, it shows Couto, not Furtado. Mosteiros is on the other side of the island. I'm having trouble reading the old script in terrible handwriting. Nancy
