Hi Eric,

I have about ten persons with the Linhares, or, Linhares Amaral
surname, linked to my family, however, none of them are directly
related to me. Some of these persons were baptized in Ponta Garca and
lived in Ribeira Quente, Povoacao - most likely, because the church in
Ponta Garca was closer than the Matriz in Povoacao, or, they may have
married persons from Ponta Garca, and thus, became parishioners of the
church in that community.

As Eric Edgar mentioned, at some point in time, some persons with the
Linhares surname who resided in Ribeira Quente, relocated to the
island of Flores. I can't say why any of them may have chosen to do
so, except that, possibly it had to do with work (Ribeira Quente was
basically a fishing community, and, Flores is noted for its history of
whaling).
