I'll leave the San Jose conference to those who attended. Our Salt Lake conference was a little larger than our 2010 conference. Again, it was a pleasure to work with such a great group of people. I did try to push the open research or guided or one-on-one in the evenings. I think I did a better job of that this time around. We had many more people in the library in the evenings, utilizing either me, Joao, or Rosemarie. For those that we worked with, I think we had success in getting everyone "reading" the records. Even with the crazy chicken scratch that some of the priest's utilized for handwriting or penmanship.
I learned how to use the 1940 census with Celeste's help. After 3 phone calls to my dad, I finally got the CORRECT story out of him where he lived in 1940 and I did find him. I was able to find my immigrant ancestors fairly easily (they were rural), as well as my mom and other assorted relatives. I don't know why I didn't think to ask Joao what he needed to present. There was about a 10 minute or so delay to get a white board for him. I also need to remember to get to the Family History Library before hand to ask how to use that software that engages the projector. It's a little hard to remember how to use it when the last time was almost 2 years ago. One evening, a few of us chatted in the library lobby. On Friday, a group of us decided to watch "Who Do You Think You Are?" in that same library lobby. Nancy Jean got there first and somehow talked a man out of his sports game so the 7 or 8 of use could watch! After that, we took over the hotel lobby seating area. As in, we rearranged the furniture so we could all sit and talk to each other. Good thing they like me at the Plaza hotel! (we put the furniture back). I will be sending out something this summer about a future conference in Salt Lake. I don't know if we will do it in 2013. If we do, it will not be in April, it will have to be in June as Rosemarie's school vacation schedule doesn't correspond with mine. Hope the attendees had a good time and hope to meet many more of you in the future!
