I think they only show up if you notify the social security that you want to 
collect the one time death benefit of $255.00.  My mother didn't show up, then 
I told my sister (who was handling all of the finances to my mother) to notify 
social security of the one time death benefit and she did then my mother showed 
up on the social security death records search.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] SSDI Infor for death in Mexico
  

I am trying to find a SSDI record for a US Citizen who died age 80 at his 
summer home in 1995 in Mexico.  He is buried in the US and collected Social 
Security. 

I cannot find him on SSDI records.  Even though he died in Mexico shouldn't he 
still be listed on SSDI if he collected it?
