We were in São Miguel, São Jorge and Terceira in late October-early November one year, and the weather was lovely -- not as warm/muggy as summer (which I don't like), but still mild, sort of like my beloved native San Francisco Bay Area. It only seriously rained 1 day out of 10 (but hey, that's what museums are for!), plus brief showers on a few other days, so pack an umbrella and light jacket. Best of all, practically no other tourists, so you can really get a feel for the place (it was my husband's first time there), and tourist attractions aren't crowded.
