Carol, Your note caught my attention when you mentioned Edgartown. My parents were born and raised on Martha's Vineyard. So, I went to my books on the Portuguese on MV, but found nothing under Wood or Woods that seemed to apply. But, here's my thought: there used to be a historical society that kept info on all the Portuguese families from the island. If they're still in operation, you might want to contact them. Just a thought.
Also, if you find your ancestor(s) from Pico, please let us know. My paternal grandmother came from Candelaria. Her lines extend into Sao Mateus and Sao Joao. Good luck with your research.
