I've posted what I know here before and unfortunately, what leads I got
have been dead ends. What I do know:

Antonio Dutra b 1827 in the Azores - we believe Faial, maybe Flamengos, but
are not sure. He died 7 Apr 1894 in Sacramento CA
Katherine (Katie) or Catarina J. Silva b 23 Jul 1845 in the Azores. Died
28 Oct 1902. Married in Sacramento 14 April 1867 The book entry says his
last name is Dotria - I have a copy.
These were my great grands. Katie Silva Dutra was NOT an Escobar. With
all the same names in the Sacramento area, I am always seeing my father,
grandfather and great grandparents in someone else's tree!

Antone Joseph Dutra b 3 Oct 1877 in Freeport, CA d 8 May 1936 in
Sacramento, CA.
Wilhelmina Anna Kaminsky b 2 Nov 1883 in Sacramento, CA d 9 Oct 1963 in
Sacramento. They married 5 May 1908 in Sacramento. Their family home was
on E Street. I visited my grandmother there often. My grandfather died
before I was born.

I do not know how the great grands got to the area. Once census says they
were from the Sandwich Islands, which I understand was how Hawaii was often
referred to - all other censuses say they were from the Azores. The Dutras
were a farming family and owned a large ranch outside of Stockton,
California. They seem to move back and forth from the farm to Sacramento.
They had the following children:

Marian b 1880 Sacramento m Joseph H. Goulard (6 children)
Rose b 1876 Sacramento m William Rico (no children)
Mary b 1869 never married
Antone Joseph b 1873 Freeport m Wilhelmina Anna Kaminsky (children:
Anthony Joseph, Jr (my father), Edna Cecilia, Frank Robert, and Marcel
Ernest.)
Joseph M - b 1875 - He drowned while swimming in the Sacramento River when
he was 21.

I have contacted the local Catholic churches in both the area of their farm
and in Sacramento and they have no information (or maybe they don't want to
look it up for me). I was born and raised in Sacramento but since my
grandfather was already dead and my grandmother was not Portuguese, I was
not exposed to any Portuguese traditions, clubs or places. My father and
his siblings were not involved in the Portuguese community that I can
remember. I married and moved away a LONG time ago. I knew both of my
father's brothers and my aunt well. I remember meeting my great aunts Rose
and Mary. I don't remember Marian, but am now in contact with some of her
Goulard descendants. Her son's wife passed away recently and had been a
good source of information about where the family lived. Marian Dutra and
Joseph H. Goulard were married on the family farm outside of Stockton.

That's what I know. After looking for a LONG time for information on my
Portuguese ancestry, I did the DNA test. I persuaded my brother to do the
Y-DNA test. I'm still after one of my 3 cousins (I only have 3 - all
males) to also do the test. When I got my brother's test back - haplogroup
T1 and no matches. My ancestors must have just appeared from no where!!
Again, I echo Cheri Mello, PLEASE, EVERYONE, GET TESTED!!
