My Pereira Dutras traveled separately, serially from Silviera, Pico to Boston or the East Coast and took trains to California. Looks like there may have been another daughter Rosa. I have Cheri's info on how to read the records on the CCA site, I've just always been better with numbers than I am with words whether in another language or english. My question was would they have left Pico to come to the USA together? How likely is it that she would have come here by herself as a single woman even though she was 8 years older than her brother and he cam here married, Her name was Maria Leal dad Rosa b1868 d1932 my info has her arriving in Fairhaven, Mass. in 1893. His name was Antonio Leal Rosa b1875 d?, he married Maria Paulina b1879 d? all were from Piedade, Lajes do Pico, Pico. Did I read somewhere correctly that they would have needed passports to leave the Azores for the USA? what info do I need and is it the CCA site I will have to look? The only vessel for that year is a schooner from his island Sao Jorge to Provincetown, Ma. There are names that look like his brothers, but he is now where on the list. They are all probably related somehow since it is a small island. The lady in New Bedford, Ma helping me said that not all ships manifests have been done. We could not find info on the schooner so seeing if he was crew has not been found either. We checked other records that say he came here in 1898 but they do not record the actual date or how. We checked the whale men out of New Bedford he is not there so he did not work in that field. The search continues. He is found in 1906 when he brought his new bride here. They went to New Bedford. Trying to find out how long they stayed in New Bedford and with whom and how they got to California. He has a common name as well Jorge Faustino da Silva, 1880-1950 son of Joao Faustino da Luz. Keep searching it will be found. She would have been 25 or 27 upon arrival, in her obituary she left a brother who was in California. My question is then, would they have traveled here together? no matter how much I look I just can't find her, or him for that matter with anything definitive.
