I am hoping group members might be able to help me with two topics.
Questions: Does anyone know anything about the families below? Did the two
sisters, Filomena and Margarida, marry the same man or are these different
men? How should I proceed?
* The NEPS site for Feteira, Faial lists my grandfather's sister:
Filomena (1870 Feteira, Faial - 1955 Feteira, Faial), daughter of Jose
Francisco Martins and Virginia Emilia.
* The NEGHS site includes a marriage record for Filomena and her
spouse, Joao Correia, of Pico. The couple was married in 1891 in New
Bedford. Per the marriage cert, Joao is the son of "Manuel C." and "Francisca
J. " Filomena's parents' names agree with the info in the first bullet.
* Filomena had a younger sister, Margarida Martins (1875 Feteira, Faial
- death ?) Margarida was married in New Bedford, MA to Joao Correia de
Bettencourt (1866 Sao Joao, Pico - death ?) They had two daughters, Maria (1900
Feteira, Faial - death ?) and Olinda(date ?, Feteira, Faial - death ?)
* The NEHGS site includes a marriage record for Margarida and Joao in
New Bedford in 1896. This Joao is the son of Manuel Correa (sp error?)
Bettencourt and Francisca Josefa.
* It looks like both Joao's have parents wtih the same given names.
Thus my question about whether they are one in the same man.
Questions: Would the NEPS note below suggest that there is more information
available than what is shown on NEPS? If so, how would I go about acquiring it?
* The NEPS page for Margarida's father-in-law, Manuel Correia de
Bettencourt, has the following note at the bottom of the page. NOTA: Qualquer
interessado neste ramo, poderá fazer as suas pesquisas através do site de
genealogia do NEPS, da Universidade do Minho, onte consta umavasta ascendência
deste casal.
Thanks for taking the time to read this e-mail and for any help you might be
able to provide.
