Hi Deb, If the preceding words are Nossa Senhora da + piedade, they are probably referring to the parish of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our lady of Piety), located in Ponta Garça, Villa Franco do Campo (or Villa Franca for short) in São Miguel.
Here's a link to a photo of the inside: http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficheiro:Igreja_de_Nossa_Senhora_da_Piedade,_Ponta_Garça,_nave_central,_Vila_Franca_do_Campo,_ilha_de_São_Miguel,_Açores.JPG You could probably google it and find more info that particular parish. ________________________________ From: Deb McCabe <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 3, 2012 2:54:10 PM Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Meaning of "piedade" One of the birth records I am looking at on the NEPS site states the person's birth info and then the term "piedade." Google Translate says "piedade" means "pity" or "piety." Could someone share what it means in relation to a birth record? I'd appreciate it.
