Joao could be younger than Ana too.

Most people were Catholic in the Azores, so most have a baptism.  But I'd
find Joao's and Ana's marriage first, to confirm the foundling story.
Sure, you'll find a baptism for a Joao in the time frame you give.  You'll
find a lot of them and some will have no parents and you won't know which
one is yours.  Start with the marriage, see if it gives an age, and work
back in time.
