For those in the Tracy or Manteca or nearby areas: The Festival of the California Portuguese Bands (filarmonicas) will be in Tracy, California this year on Saturday, November 3rd.
All 14 bands are scheduled to march in at 9 a.m. Tracy, being the host band, will march in first. Then the bands march in according to when they were founded. Banda Velha from San Jose will go next, then Artesia, where I play flute and piccolo. This lasts about an hour and a half (to get all 14 bands to parade by). Then the concerts begin. Since there is a drawing for the concerts at 8:30 a.m., I won't know the time we are performing until we march in. Our concert pieces are: 40 Anos (an arrangement of 4 songs in celebration of our band's 40th anniversary), Cavaleiros do Rei, and Stars & Stripes Forever (featuring 4 piccolos). I will be there Friday night. The Artesia band is staying in the Microtel in Tracy. Maybe someone from this list who is familiar with the area can let me know of a nearby restaurant where we can meet up for dinner.
