Pat N, It's a different type of DNA (autosomal vs the Y chromosome test), but they use the same vials and extract the autosomal DNA out of it.
Have your husband log into his personal FTDNA page with his kit number and password. Towards the upper right side, there is an orange button that says ORDER AN UPGRADE. Click that and pick Family Finder from the drop down menu.
