There also is what I would consider "secondary" sources on www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt. They at least can get you started on your ancestry. I am in San Diego CA and we have microfilm on Piedade Lajes do Pico, Madelena, Sao Roque,and some on Faial, but the FHC here is closing at noon on the 15th and not scheduled to open again until January14thh (they are do some remodeling). If you live near a Family History Center you might check them out, Of course, there is always the possibility of ordering the microfilm directly from Salt Lake City.
