I have not had any problems with purchases made from Guarda-Mor except for the sometimes very long delay in receiving my purchases. Purchasing books from Portuguese bookstores used to be easy. Oftentime the company would send a requested book with an invoice to be paid upon receipt. No more. The exchange rate used to be very favorable (at one time 200$00 to the dollar). No more. Because our currency was so strong vendors would accept dollars in currency or cash with no hesitation and would often speculate and make money on the transaction. No more. Now it is all by credit card or by bank checks in euros drawn on a foreign bank with extremely high bank charges. They will also accept euro currency, but buying euros from a bank is costly and can be risky to mail, even when the mail is registered. And then there are the shipping costs that can add 50% to the costs. Whenever I go to Portugal, I take as little as possible with me and discard as much as possible before returning so that I can bring back books. When friends are coming to the States and ask me if I need them to bring me anything, I alway arrange for them to buy me a book (or two) and bring them for me. I have the S. Miguel and Santa Maria genealogies of Rodrigo Rodrigues and the Terceira, Faial, Pico, Flores and Corvo genealogies by Forjaz, et al. I hope they are working on the genealogies of Graciosa and S. Jorge. By the way, used sets of some of those genealogies, when they come on the market, are commanding 2 to 3 times the original purchase price. John
