Robyn: I thought you might be interested in what Rodrigo Rodrigues has to say about the Nesbitts in his Genealogias de S. Miguel e Santa Maria: Maria Luisa Nesbitt, wife of António Alfredo Teixeira, was the daughter of Jorge Augusto Nesbitt and Maria Cândida Curado, pariahioners of S. Pedro de Ponta Delgada. These were also the parents of Jorge Augusto Nesbitt, who was born in Fajã de Baixo and was married at 22 years of age in Matriz de Ponta Delgada on 6 Sepyember 1869 to Joana Clara de Oliveira Freitas, age 22 and a native of the same parish, daughter of Inácio Fortunato de Freitas, native of Valença, and Flora Hermínia de Oliveira, native of Nordeste. The Nesbitt family, of English origin, was already in Ponta Delgada in 1806, in the person of a João Nesbitt, a phsician educated at the University of Aberdeen (See. Arquivo dos Açores, Vol.º XI pp. 345 e 351). In the parish of Matriz de Ponta Delgada, of which she was a native, Isabel Augusta Nesbitt, daughter of Jorge Nesbitt and Maria Wilisson, married Jorge Augusto Nesbitt, son of João Nesbitt and Isabel Nesbitt (See Dr. Francisco de Ataide M. de Faria e Maia, Capitães Generais, pp.131 on). Of Jorge Augusto Nesbitt and his wife Isabel Augusta Nesbitt, were born the following children: 1.º Maria, born in S. Pedro de Ponta Delgada a 4.Jul.1825; 2.º Carlos Nesbitt, born on 18 Oct 1832. 3.º Eduardo Nesbit, born in S. Pedro de P. Delgada where he was married at ag 29 anos on 23 April 1862 to Maria José Moreira da Câmara (Chap. 123.º § 1.º N.º 10). A note by Rodrigo Rodrigues says that Isabel Augusta, natjve of Matriz de Ponta Delgada is the daughter of Jorge Urion and Maria Urion. (about these Nesbitts see also Arquivo dos Açores, Vol. X p. 409). Carlos Machado also has an entire chart devoted to these Nesbitts in his Genalogias (ms,) and Dr. Nesbitt is the physician who attended to my ancestor Manuel Joaquim de Vasconcelos in his last illness in 1829. I looked at the CCA link and found that a photographer named Marcellin Turpin worked from the the guesthouse of João António Rodrigues, and there was also a photgrapher named Nesbitt in Ponta Delgarda. That was a very interesting discovery for me. I don't know why a Nesbitt would go to another studio unless Jorge was the photographer himself.
