Gayle M, I only knew he was Cape Verdean. I don't know how much. I think someone here said half. Wikipedia gives the pronunciation as rhyming with "ropes." Apparently, he's a pretty private guy. Don't see much on his personal life by doing a Google search, but I didn't try hard either. Lots on his baseball career.
