James also check the UPEC Fraternal Society records for any more info about
where in Pico he came from. I have those records at my local Family History
Center (FHC) but I won’t be going back there until next Tuesday. When I do I
will check out the ledger book for him. Where to you live, James? If you are
anywhere close to Monterey CA you can come to the FHC any Tuesday when I will
be working 4—9pm.

I don't have any of that information. I've even searched people in the first
census I could find him in thinking they might have arrived together with no
luck. A man in Santa Cruz, Ca. sent me pictures of the family burial plot in
Castroville Ca.Cemetery just three days ago and I was pleased as punch to see
something of the man I've been trying to find for the last two years. If it
weren't for census records I would think he just fell out of the sky. The
following is from my findagrave. What is on the headstone about his parents is
all I know about them.
      Birth: Apr. 4, 1839

      Death: Jan. 4, 1907

Native of Pico, Azores Islands. Son of Antonio and Catharine (Silveria)

  Jim,

Do you have other information (such as siblings' names) that could help ? I
found a couple Antonio Brum and Catarina Rosa, but they were too old to have
been Manuel's parents.
Brum as a surname does appear on Pico, but could be part of a combination,
e.g. Brum Rodrigues. Any chance of a second name for Antonio ? Also, women
often show up with religious names, e.g. Maria Espirito Santo, rather than
surnames. So, did Catarina use any other name(s) ?

Sorry, I wasn't able to find your couple right away. Maybe someone else on
the list can help. Or, maybe the village in question hasn't come online yet.

I'm trying to find information on my 3rd GGrandfather. Manuel Brune b1839
d1907. He arrived in the U.S. in 1865, Married Lugarda Espinosa in 1868. His
parents were Antonio Brune and Catharine Silveria of Pico.
I've been unable to find his place of arrival or naturalization records. In
the 1900 census he is listed as naturalized.
I know he is from Pico Island, but I need this information to (maybe) find
the village he's from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
