Altino, I read Mel Pires=Manuel Pires and nothing else. The closest name to Barbosa that I see here is Barbara, which is Manuel Pires wife. Did you try to find a marriage between a Manuel Pires and Barbara da Costa? I took a quick glance in Nordeste I found a few Barbara da Costa but with no Manuel Pires but found one with a Manuel Furtado in 1667.
