Eliseu & Cheri: The record specifically states that her name is withheld by the order of the "ouvidor," therefore she had to be "connected" - a person of great importance, and, yes, Francisco was "illigitimate."
Eliseu, of course, I will continue to follow out this lead, and, hopefully, locate more information on their children. I can send you the transcription I took from the marriage record for Francisco and Geneveva, I just need the email address to forward it to. Also, since you are researching Nordeste, I was wondering if you've come across anything on a Jose Tavares Machado? Jose married Barbara da Costa (dau. of Anna da Costa). I believe they married circa 1670 - 1675, in Nossa Senhora da Annunciacao, in Achada Grande, where they resided until at least 1695. They were the parents of my earliest known Paiva ancestor, Domingas de Payva, wife of Manoel de Almeyda. Although, the records for Achada Grande are online, the marriage of Jose and Barbara would probably have been earlier than the records that have been filmed. -- -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
