Hi Joanne,
I meant to tell you the last time I saw your message about the spelling of one of your surnames.
It is common because of pronunciation for this mistake, but the correct and only spelling in Portugal is HOMEM.
It means "man" and for this reason, some of my great aunts didn't want to use it, while their brothers kept it.
Of course, keeping the wrong spelling for those who emigrated is the right thing to do. But when you list your ancestors who stayed in Portugal, it should always be Homem.
At least, that's what I do.
