Cheri is exactly right as far as vital records. However, under the category "immigration" Ancestry.com has a lot of passenger lists, passport applications and index to naturalization records. I found these quite helpful in my research. Because I have ancestral lines that I am tracing in Italy, England, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Canada as well as the Azores and USA, I am a world deluxe subscriber. Len S, I don't know what "Ancestry U.S. Discovery" is (unless it's the latest term for an Ancestry.com membership). But if it's affiliated with Ancestry.com, then their World section has nothing on the Azores, Cape Verde, Madeira, or Portugal. The records for us of Azorean descent are coming online at the CCA or can be ordered through a local Family History Center (FHC).
