I've noticed something when I go to the Southern California Genealogy
Society's Jamboree in Burbank, California. Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) has a
booth. It seems to me that whatever is on sale there seems to go on sale
at the Sizzling Summer Sale. FTDNA has said there would be an upgrade sale
around Father's Day (in America, that is June 16th, so I'd say mid-June).

I'd also like some of you who have really good pedigrees to consider DNA
testing (the Family Finder test). What I mean by good pedigrees is that
you have just about all your lines back a good 200 years or more. My dad's
Portuguese lines are back over 200 years. Doug da Rocha Holmes is back
over 200 years. So are many others. Let's say that my dad, Doug (or his
dad), and Rick Pimentel and Nancy Jean Baptiste all descend from Manuel &
Maria. And we all know this on paper and we know how we connect to each
other (via which child of Manuel and Maria). DNA doesn't help us. But
"Sue" comes along and she has that pai incognito line. And she happens to
match me, Doug, Rick, and Nancy Jean. Guess what? She descends from our
Manuel & Maria. Based on the centoMorgans and science, we can narrow down
which generation she is coming from and probably find the right ancestor
for her, given some time and detective work.

But the project needs people with 200 years worth of documented ancestors
who know how we connect with each other to help those who aren't back that
far or whose ancestors immigrated earlier in the 1800s or those who are
stuck in some black hole of lost records.

Please consider doing DNA. And if not this sale, they do have one for sure
at the end of the year, called their Holiday Sale (in December; sometimes
they start it in November). They will probably have a couple of other
smaller sales during the year, but the administrators don't know when.

Will keep everyone posted on the conference prices, as they seem to reflect
the Sizzling Summer Sale prices.
