How does one decide what to use as a preferred or primary name for a person? Baptism, marriage, death etc all list the same person with different (sometimes very different) surnames, middle names etc. Then if they come to this country, it starts all over again with different spellings etc. I was just wondering how experienced genealogists do. Is there a general consensus or rule they follow?
