Hi Marie,

I have been burning up the internet wires in private with Doreen and Sandra and just yesterday realized Doreen has this connection to Sao Roque do Pico and also Santo Amaro, Pico. I relate to her in both locations, in addition to her Terceira lines where all three of us share ancestors from Altares. But I don't show a DNA match with Doreen and am a little disappointed in that. I think there must be some DNA match, but it's at a smaller level than the Family Finder threshold allows and shows. If the threshold were maybe 6 or 5 cM, maybe that's how we would show as a match. Frankly, it's not surprising since I think our common ancestors were all born about 400 years ago for both Pico and Terceira.

An attempt to triangulate a match between me, Sandra and yourself or Doreen is surely a great way to do it, but from what I understand so far, all the matches between Doreen and Sandra must come from their Terceira lines.

Yet Doreen mentions some Piedade, Pico ancestors and I am not yet sure which ones they are, and I know Sandra probably has some from there. Since Piedade records start in 1699, it could be a barrier to proving such a link. And it might not be a link that the Family Finder test is showing, anyway, since I've just mentioned we link from 400 years ago and the Family Finder test doesn't show it.

Since Sandra and Doreen do both have Lajes do Pico ancestors, that is another great possibility of where they could match. Your question and method of triangulation could be the only way to solve the more remote links, but it would also take some more members doing a full tree and be willing to talk about the results.

Maybe the graphic that you get on the Family Finder results that shows who is matching which segments is the real way to answer this. I would be left out of that comparison, since Doreen and I don't match, but maybe that's how to answer your original question between Sandra, Doreen and yourself.

It's all very exciting to use these leads to find matches. But there are far more who have tested and are not speaking up or have not done much research and can't speak up much. I guess time will help as more and more get tested.

Just keep telling friends and relatives to get the test and it will surely help us solve more of these mysteries.

Hi Doreen,

I am fifth cousins to Sandra Valin and am related to her through her father, Clarence Vieira Valim's line.  I see that you are related to her and so is Doug.  Are you related to her father's line or only her mother's side?

Hi Doreen,

My tree is quite extensive also.  I would love to find a new cousin. Most of mine are multiple combination surnames.  It would be a little easier for me to find a match with multiple combination surnames.  Can you give me those combinations?  Adeus,...Marie Pleasant  [email protected]
