Anne, Are you trying to locate your grandfather's records ? Or, just trying to discern if there is a connection between these two men ?
I have found an Antonio born in the village of Sao Mateus to parents Manuel Rosa Maciel and Rosa Francisca C. Jesus who fits the time frame. Note: The church in Madalena is Santa Maria Madalena whereas the Sao Mateus church is in the village of Sao Mateus.
