Due to "Who Do You Think You Are?" and other Internet sources, we've been picking up many new members. This is fantastic. In July, we averaged a new person every other day!
It may be beneficial to sit back and watch a bit to see how posts are made and how people answer, but that is sometimes hard when you're eager to get started. So here are a couple of examples. Example 1: My great-grandpa, Manuel de Mello came from Sao Miguel to New Bedford and then California. I can't find him anywhere. He had my grandpa and some other boys. Please help!! Example 2: My ancestor, Manuel de Mello was born April 8 or 18, 1885 or 1886 or 1887. Family story says Vila Franca on Sao Miguel. He went to New Bedford and then California. I can't find him on the 1910 or 1920 census. He married Gloria Correia (b. 28 Feb 1888, also in Vila Franca). I don't know when he came to America. He never became a citizen. Example 2 will get you a lot more answers to your post as it contains names, dates and places (or even guesses - educated or family stories). It says what was done (census work). It gives clues for others to guide you in your search. Stating he was your great and he had your grandfather does not help us with the records. We don't know if you are 20 and your grandfather is about 70 now or if you are 70 and your grandfather would be long gone by now. It's best to post with the facts: names, dates, and places or what you know about them.
