One thing I found that works great on the CCA website is viewing it on an 
Ipad... you can zoom easily... otherwise, playing with the contrast might 
work... I think I'd rather have it light than bad penmanship & weird 
abbreviations...  and it seems that the records I'm looking for always end 
up being in the worse shape... good luck!
