Information Technology (IT)/Engineering Roadmap

Interesting fact: The data from Family Finder (about 75,000 people now) can
be put on enough CDs that they would wrap around the Equator!

On the new page design for Family Finder:
> You can push people directly to the Chromosome Browser (it's under the
match's name...look for the tiny down arrow underneath your match's picture
or silhouette).

> Currently, users can download the raw data from Build 36 or Build 37.
When Build 38 comes out, you'll be able to download that as well (think of
the Build as a version upgrade to your DNA).

> The phasing file is coming. Phasing is going to be a somewhat advanced
technique. It will work best if you have a lot of family members tested.
It will take you less time to understand this if you have tested many
family members.

> The $10 Upload Your Gedcom offer will go on and has no end date at this
time (which was Nov. 10, 2013).

mtDNA:
> The matching is undergoing changes. They are now including
mutations/differences.

Y-DNA & SNPs:
There is a new YCC tree (tree of mankind). New SNPs have been found. Some
mutated as much as 7 times! They now have 6200 new SNPs and over 1000 new
branches. However, not every SNP is public. (A lot of this is
anthropology type information).

X Matching:
> Launching Jan. 2, 2014 (I told you guys it was coming).

> Humans are anywhere from 15% - 90% the same on the X chromosome.

> A browser will be made for it. This will be an advanced feature.

> It doesn't mean anything if you don't match your cousin.

They are increasing personnel in the engineering/IT dept to get the job
done faster. This means that things on their "to do" list that were
considered low priority will be moving up.
