Hi Jesse:

I also have *Françisco da Costa Castelo* born 1738 October 8; & *Joanna
Andrade* b. 1739 Feb. 7, in my family tree, twice.

Their children (what I found so far):

*      José 1762*

               Ignacio 1965

Ign *Francisco 1768 *

*F *Ignacia 1770

MaM Manuel 1773

Ma Manuel 1775
     Joao 1780

I believe *Francisco da Costa Castelo*'s father is *Dioniz Teixeira*married to
*Maria
da Costa*.

*Joanna da Conceiçao Andrada*'s parents are: *Martinho de Andrade* and
*Barbara
de Sousa*.

Sometimes, a child is given their mother's maiden surname.

My own grandmother has CASTELO as her maiden surname. The further back I
go, I seem to loose the name CASTELO in the registrations.

I have yet to find the original ancestor with the surname CASTELO.

My father, talked about my grandmother's family as the family CASTELOs.

The name CASTELO, I believe orginated in northern Europe, ie: northern
Spain, France. CASTELO, as well is known as, CASTLE.

Sincerely,

Maria. : )
