I was browsing through the new uploads by CCA and noticed this baptism of Gil on the left side.

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-SAOROQUE-B-1900-1911/SMG-PD-SAOROQUE-B-1900-1911_item1/P494.html

It says the mother of Gil was born in Maui. Her parents are Nicolau de Sousa and Teresa Isabel.
Looking carefully, you will see these maternal grandparents are also the godparents and so must have moved to Sao Miguel after living in Hawaii for a while. And Teresa Isabel signed her name. It might mean they were originally from Sao Roque or at least Sao Miguel, but that isn't any certainty.

This could be a break through for someone with Hawaiian roots.

Good luck.
