It's gonna take allot of practice. Can't make out much.

Geneva,

This link takes you directly to the CCA's genealogy page: http://goo.gl/01wOLs

Ribeira Grande is not online yet.  IF (giant IF) the powers that be at the CCA
decide to finish Sao Miguel before moving on to other islands, then Ribeira
Grande is up next.  The freguesias will appear in alphabetical order, most
likely.

You should practice your "reading" skills by looking up some records that you
paid Joao Ventura to look up.  Then you'll be ready to find your Domingos by
the time the CCA loads Rabo de Peixe.

The map is a bit of a pain.  You have to get the tip of the finger exactly on
the white dot...and the white dot for the council of Ribeira Grande that houses
the Rabo de Peixe records is right on the edge of Sao Miguel, so it's
technically in the ocean and very hard to see.

Above the map though, there is a row of words in a greenish or olive print.
Look for the 3rd set of words:
Pesquisa de Registos Paroquiais (Search the Registers Parish - Search the
Parish Registers).

Next window opens.
Ilha (Island): Sao Miguel
Council (Council - similar to an American county):
Freguesia (village):

You can probably tell that buttons on the bottom refer to baptisms, marriages,
and deaths.

Find a record and try getting what you can out of it.  Post what you can read
and what you need help with.  Do this enough times and you will be one of the
people on this list helping others.  Many of us are not native speakers and
many of us had to learn to "read" ourselves or by the use of this list.

Good luck,
Cheri Mello

What is the web page for the CCA that everyone refers to. I have been out of
the Genealogy loop for awhile due to my Husband's health and subsequent death
recently. I am in the grieving stage and thought I would turn to my Genealogy
work to help me cope.

I got some family information when I hired Joao Ventura.

Geneva,

Well, you somehow got to the late 1600s or early 1700s, so you must be reading
something!  :)  And names are the easiest.  Go to the CCA site and find a
Domingos and look to see if the parents are Tome and Maria.  If the parents are
Manuel and Rosa, then go to the next Domingos.  Domingos isn't super common, so
there shouldn't be a million of them!
