Hi Ralph, I believe the instructions for the Gedcom were in the Welcome Letter that you received when you first signed up. However, the FTDNA web site has gone through a couple of changes and I haven't looked at the welcome letter in a year, so it may be time to rework that letter.
Since you had the Family Finder test run, you upload your ENTIRE Gedcom. Your Portuguese side, your American side, your German side, your Irish side, etc. FTDNA will give you ALL your matches, regardless of nationality. If you are pretty proficient at manipulating your genealogy software, then have FTM start with you and run 10 generations back on all direct blood lines. At this time, FTDNA only reads the birth place and date, and death place and date. I'd include the marriage place and date as well. They are supposed to make a little more space for the family trees this year. It will strip all your notes, occupation, education, etc. FTDNA is really housing our genetic data and tries to provide a space for us to figure out where our common ancestor is. It works well, if you come from a population where people use different names, but some populations are fond of certain names (we just love our Marias, Manuels, Joses, Antonios, etc). After you create your Gedcom, log into your FTDNA page. Right now, you can click on the "$10 Coupon for your Family Tree" icon and it will walk you through the rest.
