Not all the parishes have indexes but it is helpful when you find one that does. I recently used the index for Sao Sebastiao (Ponta Delgada) and it took a while to find the actual page. The indexes did not match the books and then some the books were renumbered and rebound and the original numbers trimmed off.

She and her husband came to our first Salt Lake conference where we taught her how to "read" and here she is, figuring everything out! :) Everyone can learn to "read." Some people grasp it more quickly than others, but you can learn to bumble your way through those records.
