Besides the big feast in Ponta Delgada, the one that is frequently referenced
is the one in Terceira because the Imperio is so intricate and beautiful. Here
is a link that may help you, and if you can call a travel agent in Fall River
or New Bedford that has a Portuguese sounding surname, I am willing to bet they
will be able to give you dates and information and help you plan your itinerary
for the land part of your trip. My wife and I went to Sao Miguel six years ago
and used a Portuguese travel agent who was fabulous because she used to go
there with tours twice a year--unfortunately, she has retired and her son who
was to take over the business died from a heart attack, so I no longer have the
connection. Seriously though, find a travel agency in either of those
primarily Azorean communities and they will be able to help you. Fall River
has Holy Ghost feasts almost every weekend in the spring and summer and then
they do a big one which is billed as the Great New England Holy Ghost Festa the
weekend before Labor Day.

Here is a very helpful link

BTW, I live in Stonington, CT and we have a large feast of our own. When the
founders were establishing it back about a hundred years ago, they decided to
be very pragmatic and since there was already a celebration on Pentecost here,
and one in New London, they went to the other extreme and chose Labor Day
weekend as their feast day.

this link takes you to our facebook page and there are pictures you may want to
share with your family.

when you find out more, please share it with me since I want to go to one of
these festivals in the "old country" before I die, so anything you can tell me
would be helpful.
