There are or were different island groups that belonged to Portugal. The Azores are a group of 9 islands: Santa Maria, Sao Miguel, Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico, Faial, Flores, and Corvo. They are currently an autonomous region of Portugal. The Azores GenWeb has a wealth of resources: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~azrwgw/
Madeira has only 2 main islands: Maderia and Porto Santo. There are some small ones called Desertas or something. No one lives there. They also are an autonomous region of Portugal. Cape Verde is a group of 10 islands: Santo Antao, Sao Vicente, Santa Luzia, Sao Nicolau, Sal, Boa Vista, Maio, Santiago, Fogo, and Brava. They are their own country now. -- Cheri Mello Listowner, Azores-Gen Researching: Vila Franca, Ponta Garca, Ribeira Quente, Ribeira das Tainhas, Achada -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores.
