Nancy,

would you send the bookmark to the list? I have tried to find where that info
is stored on the Tombo site and I can’t find it! Thanks, Rosemarie

Hi, Joao,

Thanks for getting back to me. I guess if I had clicked one more time I would
have seen that she was headed for North America. This record allowed me to
find Maria da Luz on the Passaportes list and to find her marriage record. I
already knew her husband's name but didn't know she had a son named Jose.
That's pretty good for a great-aunt that I had very little information on.
I've bookmarked the page and will use this tool often.

Thanks again,
Nancy

  Hi Nancy,

I didn't even know they'd inserted the passport info at record level. Well
spotted :)

I use it mostly to check what books should still show up, as that site is the
archive's catalog. The text appears repeated, but the part you may have
stumbled:
"Embarcação: S/indicação, barca. Destino: América, pela ilha do Faial"
translates to "Boat: no information, barge. Destination: [North] America,
through Faial".

    Dear Joao and everyone,

I tried the tool and have some questions about it. I did a simple search
to test it out, thinking I was searching in Sao Roque baptisms, and found the
following useful information about my great-aunt.

    MARIA DA LUZ.
    Record not reviewed.
Filiação: João do Couto e Margarida Júlia. Idade: 29 anos. Estado: Casada.
Profissão: Doméstica. Naturalidade: Ponta Delgada. Arrifes. Acompanhantes: Seu
filho, José, de 3 anos. Embarcação: S/indicaçã ...

    Complete referencePT/BPARPD/ACD/GCPDL/P/001/03066
    Physical locationLv-1385-Nº 1027-1880

This is definitely my great-aunt, and with the information about the age of
her son I was able to find her marriage record on the CCA site. But I don't
understand the part after Jose's age. Does the "S" indicate that she left from
Sao Miguel? (At first I thought it might refer to "Sandwich.") And does the
1880-12-24 date refer to the date she embarked or the first date in a long set
of records? She would have been 29 in 1880. I haven't yet found Jose's birth
record.

The search I did seemed to bring up mostly emigration records from all over
Sao Miguel, and not just restricted to the time frame I selected. This tool
looks as if it could be very helpful, but I'm not sure I'm using it properly.

Thanks for any help I can get with this.

    Nancy
