It says: Manoel, son of Bernardo Teixeira Nogueira and his spouse, Victoria Maria natives of Faial da Terra, NS da Graca, residents of Agua Retorta, born 18th of Janaury, 1831, baptised 23rd day of the same month and year, in this ermida (chapel) of NS de Penha de Franca by Cura Antonio Pacheco de Amaral; Padrinhos, Manoel Correia native of Nordestinho, church of Apostle de Sao Pedro and Anna de Pimentel, residents of agua Retorta. Witnesses were Cura Antonio Pacheco Manuel who signed and Joze Raposo and Manoel Teixeira Nogueira who signed with mark of X.
I hope you take special notice that the priest made a distinction between where the subjects lived and where they baptised, and/or married, which ever applies. For all intents and purposes, from here on back, you will find all the Agua Retorta records in the mother church of NS da Graca of Faial da Terra. Sometimes the priest will not distinguish if the subjects lived in Agua Retorta or Faial da Terra. But as you gather records and information, you will know. Hope that helps.
