I could use some help understanding the godparent situation in this baptismal record. Joao Jose Botelho, son of Jose Francisco Botelho and Genoveva Rosa becomes the brother-in-law of this Francisca when she eventually weds Jose Francisco Botelho (Jr) in 1834. I don't have the baptismal record for Joao Jose Botelho, yet, but I believe he is close in age to this Francisca because Joao and his wife have children born at the same time as Francisca and Jose Francisco Botelho Jr. Was it common to name children as godparents?
