How many of our ancestors were said to be from "Portugal," when they arrived in 
the US, when, in fact, they were from the Azores, Madeira, or Cape Verde??? 
Realistically, in the natural order of things, it is much more plausible that 
the "Maia" that was mentioned, was on the same island that the "Vila Franca do 
Campo," her husband-to-be was from in 1842. If researching the local venue 
doesn't turn up anything, then, one can suggest a more distant connection.
