I seem to have missed the original message, but perhaps my father is talking about a man named Antonio Faustino Pereira de Lacerda, born in Sao Jorge and died in Sacramento. My father's project to track all the Portuguese deaths in Sacramento surely would have picked him up. He has descendants using the name Foster.
But he doesn't seem to be your man.
On the other hand, I have another Antonio Faustino Pereira in my database from the 1700s in Sao Jorge who was a "capitao" and could easily be the ancestor of yours. Faustino runs in his descendants in both masculine and feminine forms.
