Hello, I think there are more pieces of information / data being offered at www.familysearch.org each month. I've been wondering all winter about the brother of my husband's great-grandmother. To start with, my notes say the parents on Faial / Fayal were Laurinda / Lucia da ROSA and Clara Emilia. They seem to have had 2 sons, Antonio ROSA / ROSE, b~1869, and Manuel ROSA / ROSA, b~1871 ? ... and then daughter, Philomena Augusta ROSA / ROSE, b~1875. I don't yet know about other children of theirs.
I was told by researchers that, when Philomena came over to MA, she was coming over to stay with her brother, Antonio / Antone ROSA / ROSE. I haven't had time to spend much time trying to learn about "Tony" ROSE and his brother, Manny ROSE. But, this morning I was motivated to take another look on-line. Before I had guessed that Tony and Manny had arrived at around Age 20, and single, and then married in MA. But, this morning I have found the possible family of Anthony ROSE, and the 1900 census shows other details. This is a summary of what I'm finding on-line this morning: Anthony ROSE, born Jan. 1869 Azores, migrated to MA in 1887. This record showed he had already married in the Azores to .. Mary Gloria. She was born in Azores in Nov. 1870. The 1900 census says they had been married for 12 yrs., had 6 children, but 5 were living. Various records on-line show probable children for them: Mary, b1891 MA, Manuel, b1894 MA, Rose or Rita, b1896 MA, Lillian, b1898 MA, Frank, b1900 MA, then Antonio, John, Peter, Joseph, Annie and Alice (twins?). They seem to have lost Alice at Age 4, and Frank at 14. So, they seem to have had at least 11 children born to them. Rita seems to have married in 1917 in Cambridge. The 1900 census didn't show brother, Manuel ROSE, living in Cambridge or Somerville; he and his wife might have been living in Boston. One of my .guesses. is that their younger sister, Mrs. Philomena (ROSE) MOURA, might have traveled back and forth several times. There is a record showing she arrived in 1912. But, that was the year her oldest daughter, Elsita "Elsie" MOURA, was getting married in Cambridge. And, "family stories" say she had arrived before that - in time to take Elsie out of the home on Beacon Hill - where she would still have been a young teen. And I'm wondering why Elsie had not come over in ~1905 to stay with her uncle, "Tony" ROSE, or her other uncle, "Manny" ROSE. Or, did they have too many children already. Elsie's younger sisters were Rosa and Carolina. Carolina was shown to have come over with her mother ~1912. An FYI is that, with more records at www.familysearch.org I recently found a birth record for Antone / Anthony and Elsie (MOURA) PACHECO's very first child. It seems they had a daughter, named .Zintha. in 1913, who died at 8 mos. And then they had their son, Charlton. They were said to have had 10 children. And, the next child was born 5 yrs. later, so I think they had 2 infants died between 1915 and 1920. "Charlie" and his younger siblings lived to marry and provide grandchildren. A reminder is that "Tony" PACHECO died in a car accident in 1929. Elsie was pregnant with twins and delivered a month later. Both boys died before they were 3. Thank you for your time. I hope some of these names jog someone's memory. I actually asked the surviving son to jog his memory, and he has no memory and he does not remember knowing a ROSE family growing up in Cambridge.
