I have Family Tree Maker 2006 or 16. Putting the \\ at the end of the entire name (first, middle, da, de, or do) and the last name puts the first name as the name by which the index is filed.
Again, it still takes time to go through all the Maria names; however, I have a better chance of finding the name that may be different from the name I would find by the last name I had entered. At the bottom of the index, the spouse name comes up and that helps when I know the name of the spouse. I know there are other ways people list names; this works for me.
