Cheri,

I do not know about the left over copies. There was an article published in the
"Bulletin" about the ladies walking up and down the rows of the cemetery
accumulating information. Whether they then supplemented the information by
checking with the cemetery office, I do not know.

Here in the Diocese of Fall River, now that most cemetery records have been
computerized, getting the office staff to pull it up for you, is much easier.
When it meant looking up index cards and cross referencing, you did not
necessarily get "quick" results and might wait for quite some time before
getting the information, if at all.

My experiences with Catholic cemetery staff over the last 20 years has been
excellent. I have heard some stories though, about pushy, demanding researchers
vs. past cemetery administrators (priests) who reminded staff that their least
important function was helping people do genealogical research. The staff and
administrators I have dealt with have been extraordinarily helpful and
attentive.

Elaine,
So someone took the St. John's Cemetery book and typed it up in Find A Grave?
And you are sure it was walked and not pulled from records?

John, they took the left over books and gave them to the university?  I know
their record collection went there.  But I mean the X number of leftover St.
John Cemetery books.
