Doug has given you some tips, but, you still need more info to be able to 
find your ancestor. I'm not sure how you came by the name, Fernandes 
Baleeiro, but as Doug has mentioned, *Fernandes* is normally used as a 
surname.* Baleeiro,* on the other hand, translates as "*whaler,"* and, may 
be an "*alcunha," *that is, a nickname based on his occupation. You say 
that he emigrated to Bahia in 1726, do you know the exact date of his 
arrival? Or, how long he lived in Bahia? Did he marry in Bahia? Did he die 
in Bahia?
Once you have some of that basic info, you can consider tracing him back to 
the land of his birth - whether that be the Azores, or, somewhere else.
