Fred,

As Margaret said, it names his executor as his sister.
You might discover that these are close relatives to you, since he has the same name.
Often times people don't care about remote siblings, but to make a complete family group and perhaps add additional color to a b/w tree, finding every sibling of every ancestor is what I recommend. If you can find his baptism and it matches to the age at death, then maybe find his sister by this name getting married, or either one as godparents for your own ancestors, then you will have successfully added these two people to your tree.

Thanks, Doug and Margaret, for this very useful information. Looks like I've got to keep looking for the correct person!

Hi Fred,

Unless your 6th GGF was a single person you may not have the right Bras Correa for this gentleman status at 50 years of age +/- at his death (sui juris)  emancipated/independent/single.  The meaning of sui juris is as noted by Doug.  He had a will made up with his sister Francisca Correia, also sui juris (single) being the executor.

I think I found the death record for my 6th ggf but I'm having trouble reading the record. I read the date as 22 Dec 1735. After his name are the word "sui juris (sp?)"...what does that mean?  Are there other important facts in the record, like wife's name or his parents names?  The record is at the top left page: http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-O-1731-1746/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-O-1731-1746_item1/P58.html

Any help is much appreciated.
