Hello,

My husband's great-grandfather, Francisco MOURA, from Sao Miguel was
reportedly a Whaler. He died ~1900, but there is no family story that we
know of which mentions whether he died at home or at sea. It was a year
or so after when his widow, Mrs. Philomena Augusta (da ROSA) MOURA, began
sending their 3 daughters over to Boston, MA. Their 2 sons reportedly
married first and then came over. They ended up in CA and NY, and I've
found descendants. My husband knew his great-grandmother as a young
child, and MA census records showed her as "Phoebe" MOURA. He remembered
her as a tall, thin woman who wore a jacket with large pockets - where
candy was kept.

Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

(I've posted about the extended family before. The 3 daughters married
into PACHECO, PERRY (PEREIRA??), and MEDEIROS families. All lived in
Cambridge and Somerville, MA, and all were widowed young, but they lived to
see Age 80.)
