I am sure I have. I think it had a lot to do with the information and the
detail that was put into the records by the priest. I always considered it a
bonus of information when the record said a person was dead. An example might
be that the priest knew that a parent was dead because he conducted the funeral
three months prior so when he wrote the marriage record he added that
information.

The only time I think he was required to right that a person was dead was in a
marriage where a widow or widower were remarrying, in that case he was required
to say that the former wife/husband was dead and buried.

Also in Obitos he would say if the person was currently married or was a
widow/widower.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Ja Defunto

Has anyone come across a situation where a parent of the groom or bride in a
marriage record is not listed as being dead " defunto" but you know for a fact
that the parent was already dead?
