Thank you Maria, Chris , Robyn, Cheri and Eliseu for the very interesting information. To be clear the people that went to Australia are not my ancestors or my wife's. We have a side connection to Jose and Joao de Sousa Dourado. So, according to the information received to date, Jose de Sousa Dourado is the only one that profited from this specific venture. He either returned in April 8, 1862- the year of the second certification, or he ventured out again. Jose never married and lived with his sister Jacinta in Ponta Garca. My wife's grandfather looked after them when they got older and came into some inheritance.
Jose de Sousa Dourado was born in Ponta Garca, Concelho of Vila Franca do Campo, 18 Sep 1828; Joao de Sousa Dourado, brother, and co-venturer of said Jose was born same place, 22 Sep 1832; Jacinta de Sousa Dourado, sister of said two, was born same place, 14 Jun 1841. They are children of Antonio de Sousa Dourado and Vitoria Felicia married in Ponta Garca 12 Jul 1824. Said Antonio was born in Porto Formoso abt 1798 (if I recall correctly the records are poor condition in the 1798 period) and is the son of Jose de Sousa Dourado and Francisca Inacia de Jesus. They settled in Ponta Garca where Vitoria Inacia if from. Maria Elena, there are many Limas in Ponta Garca and Vila Franca, where are yours from?
