I have found my 3rd great grandfather's obito in Maia, Ribeira Grande, 1884. It is image #7, #17 for Felicianno de Mello:

Second word looks like "catropa". I know that he was a soldier in a battalion on the island from records from the 1830s, so I assume that this is what it refers to.
